Build a rock-solid core with one of these eight functional moves.
 
To make your abs pop, you need to shed body fat and strengthen your abdominal muscles. Sure, crunches and situps may activate the abs, but these moves don't actually target as many midsection muscles, like your obliques, compared with more functional movements. "The core needs to be trained in different planes of motion," says Travis Brown, C.S.C.S. "The body is basically a cylinder, and muscles don't just attach north and south. They function by twisting, rotating, pushing, and pulling." Build strength, improve performance, and get ripped using these eight functional core exercises. Add one of these to the end of a strength and training workout. Do 3 to 5 sets of 6 to 12 reps.
